A DMC (Detailed Marks Certificate) is the marksheet your university issues for a semester or year. It shows your marks and result. After you finish the course, the university issues a provisional certificate and then the final degree. If you change universities, you also need a migration certificate.
Which Document Is Pending?
| Document | What it is |
|---|---|
| DMC (Detailed Marks Certificate) | The marksheet for a semester or year |
| Provisional Degree Certificate | A temporary certificate issued until the final degree is ready |
| Degree Certificate | The final certificate after you complete the course |
| Migration Certificate | Needed when you move to another university |
Names can vary by university. The steps in both guides work for all four documents. Get the DMC first, then apply for the degree.
How the Process Usually Works
- Check first. Ask your college exam office, look at the university portal and check DigiLocker.
- Write to the university. Email the Examination Branch with the Registrar in CC and keep your roll number and proof ready.
- Raise a complaint. Use the student grievance portal and save the complaint number.
- Escalate. Use the Registrar, Vice-Chancellor, Ombudsperson, the state Right to Service route (for example in Haryana) or an RTI application.
The general guide explains all seven steps, and the Gurugram University guide shows the exact Haryana Auto Appeal steps.
Common Reasons for a Delay
- Your result is withheld or not yet final
- A pending fee, due or backlog blocks the document
- Your name, roll number or date of birth does not match the university records
- Your college has not sent all the required records to the university
- The document is ready but not yet dispatched or sent to the college
How Long Should It Take?
Timelines differ by university and state, so check your university's notice. UGC has reminded institutions that its degree regulations provide for degree award dates within 180 days of when students are expected to qualify. In Haryana, the Right to Service Act, 2014 sets notified time limits, and the Auto Appeal System raises an appeal automatically when a limit is crossed. Documents other than the degree may follow different timelines.
Three Quick Checks Before You Start
- Your result is declared and you have no pending fee or dues.
- Your name, roll number and date of birth match the university records.
- Your document is not already on DigiLocker. Check the Issued Documents section.
FAQs
- Where do I start if my DMC or degree has not arrived? Start with the guide for your situation. Gurugram University students should use the Gurugram University DMC not received guide. Students of any other university should use the general DMC or degree not received guide.
- Is the process the same for every university? The basic steps are similar: check with your college, apply or track on the university portal, email the Examination Branch, use the grievance portal, and escalate. Portals, forms, fees and timelines differ by university and state, so always confirm on your university's official website.
